A new entry-level smartphone by Taiwan-based tablet and smartphone manufacturer HTC has finally hit the stores. HTC Desire C now rests on the company’s low-end of the Android-powered product line. It is the newest member to be added to the reincarnated ‘Desire’ family. Powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s ‘armed’ with built in NFC support. The Desire family of devices has stood the test of time, showing great performance since 2010.

The VP of Microsoft’s Windows Phone Division announced at the 2012 Windows Phone Summit in San Francisco a new feature for Windows Phone 7.5:  the new Start screen of the Windows Phone 8. The keyword in the announcement is “feature” as smartphone users will not get upgrades to Windows Phone 8 for their Windows Phone 7.5. The software company will give users a partial upgrade of the operating system through an update of Windows Phone 7.8.

The Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A Ultrabook

Asus has added a new product to its Ultrabook lineup: Zenbook Prime UX31A. The new Ultrabook is a successor to the company’s Zenbook UX31E launched in 2011. Asus wants to address some of the issues that users raised against the Zenbook UX31E with the Zenbook Prime UX31A.

The Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A is very sleek, measuring 325 mm x 223 mm x 18 mm in size and weighing 1.3 kg. The laptop has a backlit keyboard and a large clickpad that is smooth but challenging in terms of applying the right pressure on it.

Microsoft is Ready to Purchase Yammer for $1.2 Billion in Cash

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) is acquiring Yammer Inc., a B2B social networking firm for $2.1 billion. The acquisition of the social network operator will enhance Microsoft’s cloud services and allow the company to compete with other businesses that offers social networking software such as Salesforce.com Inc., with newbie Jive Software Inc. and with the startup Asana Inc. being run by Dustin Moskovitz, the Facebook co-founder.  Rob Koplowitz, a Forrester Research Inc. (FORR) analyst, claims that Microsoft needed consolidation; social networking is an important communication generator. As Microsoft is behind in this aspect, the acquisition of Yammer will allow the company to have a strong position and can even put the company on the lead.
